About the book
It all begins with a story of the first Elemental Gods, the Seven Sages of the stars, and the champion gods of the Earth as they are called to their duty.
The Ancient giant Asura Vala finds a showdown with Agni – the youngest god of the Earth, a confrontation of stellar proportions, that serves as the inception story of all precious stones and jewels that would make their way to the Earth. With that, the Grand Lord Indra convenes the ancient age.
Through the course of this backdrop, the root story belongs to the Ancient King Trisanku, and the crux of the constellations. He has his adventures in tutelage to the grand sage VishvaMitra, and of course the free-wheeling Saptrishi Vasishta.
Vasishta, in our storied frame, shares the greatest love story told in the Universe with Arundati, the goddess in the evening dawn, erstwhile the shining morning.
Taking us through the stellar archetypes is naturally the Lord Narada, who begins the stories and sees to the seams, as only he in his lovely quintessential Narada way would do.
The archetype of the stars is an eclectic collection of obscure star stories and curious tales of mythological descent. The various characters that start our journeys are archetypes of ancient history and elementary spiritual figures whose adventures have regaled the very format of oral storytelling throughout the history of man and language.
Ancient timeline
The story is set in the era of the old gods. Time for the Earth has not yet been activated, but the Earth has been readying for it. The guardians of the Universe, led by Lord Indra usher in a new age, and the battle that balances the scales for time to begin is underway. Agni, or the God of fire is the star that will champion the Earth, along with the new Sun, Martanda known to the ages as Surya. The ancient constellation Sisumara Mandala, or the Grand Dolphin Constellation makes the decrees and passes the reins to Indra, as he presides over rainfall on Earth.
At this magical intersection of time and space in the Universe, two primary influences preside. One is of the opulent larger-than-life God-Kings, and the other of the Saintly Seven Sages, whose down-to-Earth approach is in direct contrast to Indra’s style of governance in the Universe.
All the same, the Earth which is flourishing in plant and animal life, and mostly ruled by the Asuras, is getting ready for change and unfolds as the place of impact as Agni faces off one of the mightiest kings of the galaxies in Vala. But, Asura king Vala’s transition out of power is not a seamless one and much stands altered in the celestial equations by the time Agni takes the custody of the Earth and stands in Indra’s stead as fire upon the Earth.
Most Celestial beings at this time had their abode in their respective stars, which represented their place in the heavenly fabric of the Universe. Although in physical form, they could flit about as their pleasure, their primary spirit essence would then remain as their station in the stars.
